What advice would you give to someone considering taking this course?
Anonymous: Feel like it's good to have some level of background knowledge in physics. All lectures are recorded, but the audio was hard to hear sometimes.
Anonymous: Can overload, similar content to CM1102. Lectures are recorded.
Anonymous: As the workload of this course is relatively lower than other 2k core mods and it covers mostly A-level H2/3 chemistry, it is highly recommended to be taken with another 3k core mod / higher level electives / overloaded. Lectures and tutorials are all recorded and Dr Yip's speaking pace is relatively slow, it is recommended to watch lecture videos at 1.5x speed if you want to save time.
Anonymous: There are 2 lectures and 1 tutorial every week. Although all lectures and tutorials were recorded, I would strongly recommend to at least go for tutorials as Prof would try to ensure everyone has a chance to present their answers and reviews why they are correct or wrong. Like all courses, it is important to stay consistent and follow lectures throughout the semester. Prof provides and goes through past year papers so do attempt them and keep up.
What did you enjoy or find most useful from this course?
Anonymous: The labs were the most engaging part of this course.
Anonymous: Prof provided lots of relevant background information, especially in the second half of the mod, which made lectures more engaging.
Anonymous: As lectures and tutorials are all recorded, you can manage your study time in a more flexible way, especially during exam/submission period. The content covered is quite interesting and one can use it to explain some common chemistry phenomena in real life.
Anonymous: It was very interesting to learn about individual elements and their properties (last part when he went through the periodic table). Prof is very knowledgeable on these concepts.
What aspects of the course did you find most challenging, and why?
Anonymous: The messy slides and monotonous voice of the prof
Anonymous: There was lots to memorise
Anonymous: Dr Yip's slides are messy and do not have learning outcomes/objectives, so it is hard to tell which parts are the important/tested ones. But this can be found out by doing tutorials and past year papers, or by directly asking him, so that he will announce during lecture/via emails.
Anonymous: Certain concepts were hard to understand and the questions that Prof sets are not very repetitive. Concepts are the same, but it's not a simple copy-paste answer from past year papers.
What resources did you find most helpful in helping you better understand the course material?
Anonymous: Reading the textbook is the best way to get through this course
Anonymous: Slides provided by professor were sufficient
Anonymous: Past year papers and tutorials. As Dr Yip's format of exam papers and type of questions almost do not change over years, one can easily predict what questions can come out in exams by doing his tutorials and practice questions.

What other courses do you think should be taken before or concurrently with this module?
Anonymous: CM2122
Anonymous: 2122 concurrently to clear labs for both
Anonymous: N.A as I think the content is not really related to other mods except CM1102
Anonymous: Concepts link with all other 2ks but are not essential
